Marty Bannister and her friend, Mary Ann Graf, started the first wine services business, called Vinquiry, in 1979. It started out of a storefront off of the plaza in Healdsburg and grew to become a large business, integral to the growth of the American wine industry over the last 45 years. Marty was asked to consult and make wine for a number of Russian River Valley wineries in the 1980’s and in 1989 she started making her own wine. Bannister wines kept production limited between a thou- sand and fiffteen hundred cases for it’s entirety, sourcing Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Zinfandel from world famous vineyards in Sonoma County. Over the decades, Marty’s son, Brook, would step out of his art career to help when needed in the family business. In 2013, Marty had health issues that limited her abiltiy to work, and Brook started making the wines in a more full time capacity. Since then he’s added additonal varietals to the lineup, but kept making the wines in the same style and spirit as Marty did. He and his wife, Morgania, also a professional artist, built their tasting room and art space in the historic Geyserville Vault in 2022. They host tastings and art shows as well as show off their interior design and furniture creations in this special space.
